Crafty Kids: Robots

Another sciencey thing for kids: robots! We made robots three times this summer (three different kinds of robots that is!)  Here's the program we did for our preschoolers.

Song: The Coils on the Robot

(to the tune of "The Wheels on the Bus")

If you’re a robot and you know it clank your coils (clap)
If you’re a robot and you know it clank your coils (clap)
If you’re a robot and you know it and you really want to show it clank your coils (clap)
Continue with: “Clunk your gears” (stomp feet), and “Press your buttons” (“Beep beep”)

Rhyme: Robot, Robot

Robot, robot, Turn around.
Robot, robot,Touch the ground.
Robot, robot, turn left and right.
Robot, robot, flash your lights.
Robot, robot, bloop and bleep.
Robot, robot, go to sleep.

Flannel Board: Five Noisy Robots

I bought these robot bulletin board pieces at my local Becker's outlet.  36 of them came in the package. I laminated them and put felt on the back to use for Five Noisy Robots and for the robot matching game. I also had five pennies and put one in a cup every time the girl bought one of the noisy robots. Then we counted the pennies at the end.

Five Noisy Robots

5 noisy robots in the toy shop,
Shiny and tall with antennae on the top.
Along came a girl with a penny one day.
Bought a noisy robot and took it away.
(continue with 4, 3, 2, 1 noisy robots)

Robot Matching game- Each child got a a robot. When I put the robot that matched theirs on the board, they brought theirs up.

Craft: Tin Can Robots

This is basically a Mr. Potato Head with a tin can.  Each child got ten magnets to make two sets of faces for their tin can robot. We saved thirty 15 ounce cans for this craft. We wrapped the cans with paper since some of the glue from the original label wouldn't come off.   But the magnets for the face parts didn't stick so well to the paper.
